In addition to serving as editor for the publications below and others, I also edited news releases, annual reports, websites, white papers, and other publications as part of staff positions at Ohio State University, Ohio University, Whitehead Institute, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Science magazine
Contributing Editor
Served as contributing editor of the Random Samples and Newsmakers departments for the print edition of Science magazine, an international weekly peer-review and science news publication, with a circulation of more than 120,000. Duties included building a weekly story budget list; assigning and editing articles from freelance and staff writers; writing articles; coordinating art acquisition with design department; and proofing pages before going to press. This work was done as a freelance contractor.

Paradigm magazine
Editor
Creating editor of Paradigm, a life science research magazine published by Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. Although the magazine featured faculty, students, and staff at the institute, its focus was on the broader field of life sciences and articles on outside scientists were featured as well. The magazine was published twice a year for an audience of 10,000 scientists, policy makers, educators, and others who supported life sciences research. As editor, I was involved in every facet of production, including developing story budgets; assigning and editing articles; hiring freelance writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, and printers; coordinating photo shoots, print runs, and mail delivery; and managing a magazine budget of around $150,000 a year. I worked with staff web designers to create a web version of the magazine and coordinated digital delivery and promotion. This work was done as part of my position as associate director and manager of media relations and publications.

Perspectives magazine
Editor
Creating editor of Perspectives, a magazine highlighting research, scholarship, and creative activity by faculty and staff at Ohio University. The magazine was published twice a year for an audience of 10,000 faculty, alumni, policy makers, and other university stakeholders. As editor, I was involved in every facet of production, including developing story budgets; assigning and editing articles; hiring freelance writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, and printers; coordinating photo shoots, print runs, and mail delivery; and managing a magazine budget of around $100,000 a year.
